We are pleased to announce the latest update to EarthDataPlace (EDP), our powerful marketplace for accessing geospatial data and services. The new version is packed with exciting improvements, designed to enhance how users interact with the platform and to make navigating, searching, and managing data more intuitive than ever before.
Whether you're a data analyst, urban planner, or someone looking to explore high-quality geospatial resources, these updates are designed to make your experience smoother and more productive.
The first thing you’ll notice when you log into the updated version of EDP is the refreshed look of the dashboard. A clean, modernized thematic navbar gives you quicker access to essential features, with larger icons for better visibility. These simple but effective design changes make it easier to find your way around the platform, ensuring that you can focus more on your work and less on figuring out where to click.
Additionally, we’ve added a search bar at the top of the dashboard, allowing you to easily find the layers, datasets, or tools you need. Searching through extensive datasets or layers can sometimes be time-consuming, but with this new feature, you’ll be able to pinpoint exactly what you’re looking for almost instantly. This streamlined navigation ensures that accessing your data becomes a seamless part of your workflow.
We've reworked the thematic cards that display data and layers, adding useful features to make them more interactive and easy to manage. Each card now includes two new buttons:
- Add to Favorites: A small but significant addition for users who frequently work with specific datasets. You can now quickly mark your most important layers and save them to a dedicated Favorites page for fast access. This removes the need to search through the catalog repeatedly and speeds up your workflow, making it much easier to stay on top of the resources you use most.
- View in Catalog: For those who want to explore more details or discover related layers, the View in Catalog button allows you to jump straight into the full catalog to see more information or explore associated datasets.
Another major addition to EDP is our new AI-powered chatbot. The chatbot serves as an intelligent assistant, ready to answer any questions you may have about the platform. Whether you need help understanding a specific dataset or need assistance navigating a feature, the chatbot is there to provide instant responses.
What makes this feature particularly valuable is its ability to switch seamlessly to a human operator if needed. For more complex queries, our team is just a message away, providing personalized support. This dual system allows for quick resolutions through the chatbot, while also ensuring that users have access to human expertise when necessary.
To further optimize how you work with important data, we’ve added a dedicated Favorites page. This page acts as a central hub where you can store and access your most-used layers, making it easier to manage your preferred resources.
For users new to EDP or those revisiting the platform, the updated Welcome page offers an intuitive introduction to the platform’s main features. This interactive page serves as a guide to navigating EDP, providing links to key areas such as:
- Explore the Catalog: You can easily browse through available layers and datasets.
- Access Your Dashboard: Jump directly to your personalized dashboard for an overview of your work.
- Schedule a Demo: If you’re looking to learn more about the platform’s full potential, the Welcome page allows you to book a session with our team, ensuring you have all the support you need to get started.
Another feature we’ve added is the ability to access on-demand tutorials throughout the platform. These tutorials are designed to guide you through EDP’s features and help you get the most out of the marketplace. Whenever you need a quick refresher or step-by-step instructions on how to use a specific feature, simply click the “Start the Tutorial” button.
This on-demand learning approach is perfect for users who want to learn at their own pace, without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you're new to the platform or looking to dive deeper into advanced features, these tutorials ensure you're always equipped with the knowledge you need to succeed.
We’ve also upgraded the Filter Details page to provide more granular and customizable filtering options. This means you can narrow down your search with greater precision, making it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for in the catalog. The updated filters also include more detailed metadata for each layer, helping you assess its relevance and accuracy before adding it to your project.
The Highlights page offers a centralized space where users can access important insights, use cases, and analytics related to EDP’s datasets. Whether you’re interested in learning more about how the platform’s data can be applied in specific industries or want to explore performance metrics, the Highlights page consolidates everything into one easy-to-navigate location.
Additionally, we’ve added downloadable PDF reports for users who want a more in-depth analysis of EDP’s capabilities, along with real-world case studies that showcase how the platform is being used across various sectors.
If you haven’t had the chance to experience the updated version of EDP, now is the perfect time to get started. Schedule a demo with our team and see how these new features can enhance your experience and streamline your data workflows.
