UTOPIA is an innovative platform that harnesses Earth Observation data to enhance urban planning, climate resilience, and sustainable development. It provides geo-referenced data layers to inform and support decision-making processes. UTOPIA provides tools for assessing urban vulnerability, mitigating climate risks, and simulating climate change impacts.

UTOPIA Platform Services:
- Urban Vulnerability Screening
- Urban Heat Islands (UHI) Risk Identification and Mitigation: A tool to assess and mitigate climate risks, particularly extreme heat, by identifying UHI-affected areas and generating priority intervention maps with social and demographic data for decision-makers.
- Urban Nature Tool: This tool identifies areas that would benefit from environmental interventions.
- Climate Change Simulator
- Simulation of impacts of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) installation in vulnerable areas. This tool supports Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes, allowing the simulation of intervention outcomes before execution, and continuously monitoring the impact using updated Earth Observation (EO) data.

Latitudo 40 is responsible for the design and development of the UTOPIA platform, combining advanced technologies in remote sensing, machine learning, and urban simulation. Specifically, Latitudo 40’s contributions include:
- Developing algorithms for processing satellite data, focusing on estimating surface temperature, tree canopy density, and biomass.
- Creating artificial intelligence-based predictive models to simulate intervention scenarios and assess the impact of mitigation strategies.
- Integrating with geographic information systems (GIS) to provide public administrators with practical tools for managing urban policies.
- Validating the platform in pilot cities such as Turin, Milan, and Naples, testing the effectiveness of the developed tools to support ecological transition.
