The VISTA (Vision-based Intelligent System for Tactical Autonomy) project is focused on the development of a command and control system for autonomous rovers, integrating satellite data, urban cameras, and onboard sensors to monitor and explore urban and challenging environments. Utilizing Edge AI, the system processes real-time data from various sensors, enabling autonomous decision-making even under difficult conditions such as low light or unknown terrain.
This system enhances navigation, optimizes responses in critical situations such as natural disasters, and ensures operational resilience. The integration of data from multiple sources enables effective operation in partially known environments, reducing dependency on external infrastructure and increasing data security.
The project provides significant benefits including advanced environmental monitoring, swift emergency responses, and increased operational efficiency in smart cities. It also contributes to sustainability efforts by reducing CO2 emissions, extending the lifespan of electronic devices, and minimizing resource use. Furthermore, VISTA improves urban resilience against extreme climate events.
As part of Spoke 3 ‘Resilient AI’, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Latitudo 40 contributes its expertise in AI and Edge AI solutions. The company is responsible for designing and implementing algorithms that optimize rover operations in complex and adverse conditions. Through the application of machine learning and deep learning, Latitudo 40 enables real-time data processing, ensuring operational continuity even in the event of network disruptions.
Latitudo 40 also contributes to data fusion, allowing the rover to navigate autonomously and adapt to environmental changes, thus improving the overall resilience of the system and reducing operational risks.
